Bellingcat’s Financial Investigations Team is a specialist unit of researchers and volunteers who use open sources to uncover illicit financial networks, opaque corporate structures, and transnational organised crime. Our investigators are experts in digital footprint tracing, geolocation, satellite imagery analysis, visual evidence verification and social media analysis. Their work has tracked a wanted cartel leader and his associates, unmasked a key administrator behind the world’s largest deepfake porn site, and revealed how an illegal gambling platform has corrupted amateur sports. The team regularly partners with newsrooms around the world and has collaborated with journalists in Ireland, Germany, Norway, Estonia, Denmark, Canada, America, Japan, India and Australia.
