Bellingcat is Hiring: Administrative and Community Manager

We are looking for an Administrative and Community Manager for our Global Authentication Project to join our growing team. You will foster connections with our current volunteers conducting open source research and help to grow this community. You will manage our administrative components, including our email inbox, our CRM, and our Discord. You will plan events, hosting office hours and talks for our volunteers to engage with one another and with our Bellingcat researchers. 

This position is full-time and fully remote. 

Who We Are

Bellingcat is an independent collective of international researchers using open source and social media investigations to probe conflict, corruption, crimes, misinformation, disinformation, extremist groups and much, much more. We have received multiple awards for our research and publications that shine a light on wrongdoing. Our community (which includes staff, contributors and volunteers around the world) works in a unique field where technology, forensic research, journalism and the advancement of justice and accountability come together.

Who You Are

You have a demonstrable track record excelling in administrative work, organising large events, and managing an online community. You enjoy developing relationships with volunteers, fostering community, and organisational administration. As our Global Authentication Project grows, we are looking for someone who has a background of working in large community spaces and can bring their experience of network building to Bellingcat.

You are enthusiastic about working for an international nonprofit organisation that uses publicly available data and open source analysis to investigate a variety of topics that are in the public interest and which advance transparency.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with volunteers on a daily basis, serves as focal point between volunteers and Bellingcat 
  • Liaise with researchers to ensure timely volunteer research and the coordination of research outputs
  • Manage a Discord server and set up weekly, monthly, and annual events 
  • Manage a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system 
  • Manage Mailchimp 
  • Write newsletter content to engage with our community
  • Run recruitment for new volunteers, including volunteer vetting and onboarding
  • Engage on social media with our members and a larger audience 
  • Manage a professional inbox 
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate logistical issues with our volunteers 

Skills And Experience

  • A strong background in administrative organisational work 
  • Experience working with CRM systems, mailchimp, and G-Suite
  • Experience building community engagement including across social media 
  • Knowledge of social media best practice
  • Strong personal and relationship building skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong/robust digital security awareness
  • A deep understanding of the internet as well as an ability to foster communities on a variety of social media platforms, experience working with Discord is beneficial but not required
  • Experience planning community events is beneficial, but not required 
  • Full professional proficiency in English language, fluency in other languages beneficial
  • Willingness to work independently with colleagues spread across several time zones (remote working is possible in this role)

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week and five days a week.

The salary range (based on 1 fte, i.e. full-time employment 40 hours per week) is within the framework of the non-profit sector and is between 48,000 and 51,000 EUR depending on experience and track record.

Additional benefits include 25 (twenty five) days of paid holiday days per year (based on 1 fte), full social security benefits (in case employment is in an EU country), contribution for health insurance (in case employment is in the US), yearly budget for personal development and yearly paid sabbatical leave (the latter two are subject to eligibility).
